The main character of the movie, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham- 2001, is Yash (played by Amitabh Bachan). He is a rich businessman, and he is living in New Delhi with his family. His wife is Nandini (played by Jaya Bachchan), and his two sons are Rahul and Rahul. The older son, Rohan, finds out that he is adopted and does not take it well as he feels indebted to his parents.

Rahul (played by Shahrukh Khan) ends up falling in love with Anjali Sharma (played by Kajol); she's a girl who belongs to a lower social class then Rahul.His parents do not approve of her because of her poor social class and they want him to marry Niana Kapoor (played by Rani Mukerji#. Rauhl chooses to disobey his parents by marrying Anjalli against their wishes.

Yash's parents disown him as a result, and the happy couple end up moving to London. Yash's mother send's his nanny to London to take care of him.

The nanny's name is Sayeeda #played by Farida Jalal#. It is not until ten years later that Rohan #played by Hritik Roshan# finds out what really happened to his brother.Rohan tells his parents he wants to go to school in London, but the main reason he goes there is to convince his brother to come back to India. Anjali's sister, Pooja 'Poo' Sharma #played by Kareena Kapoor) ends up convincing Rauhl to let her live them them. When Rahul finds out that Rohan is actually his brother, Rohan advises him go home. Mother and son return to India because of the death of his mother. Rahul ends up going to the funeral services, and he wants to go home to visit with his mother. Rohan and Poo think its a good idea. Once Rahul returns to India, Yash express remorse for disowning his child. His father says that he always loved his son, and it was never any other way. You will have to watch the movie to see how it ends because you can see there are a lot of twists and turns in the film.

Rohan, who was studying in a hostel, returns home to find that Rahul is no longer living with them, and he also discovers that while outwardly his dad is not interested in seeing Rahul get back, Nandini wants the family back all together for all happy and sad moments. Rohan also misses Rahul a lot, and decides to travel to London in order to try and get Rahul to return home.

Yashvardhan, is unable to prevent this, and as a result Rohan does travel to London, meets with Rahul, Anjali, and Pooja. The question remains will the hurt and sorrow that Rahul experienced with his foster parents be erased and enable the family to be reunited, or will Rahul forget about the past, and continue to live his life without getting back to his roots and the family who brought him up, leaving Rohan to return alone?
